A videotape records images and sound onto magnetic tape. Unfortunately, magnetic tape deteriorates over time for many reasons, the primary one is the breakdown of the binder, or glue, that holds the magnetic particles to the polyester base of the tape. This causes deterioration of both the image and the audio; eventually resulting in a blank tape. The current life span of VHS tapes is thought to be about 10 years.

In order to preserve precious family memories, VHS tapes should be converted to digital format. The most popular current format in the United States is the Digital Video Disc (DVD). Depending on the type and quality of the disc, a DVD can conceivably last up to 300 years. More realistically, it won’t deteriorate before the next generation of media technology!

This was a nice surprise, thank you MaryLou and Richard for all your sacrifice to keep this free service available for Social Entrepreneurs. Your generous time to help during weekends and international times zones, during Memorial Day weekend is what made it possible to increase awareness of Dr. Harch’s brain repair discovery to the military/veteran community – then it blew up to the autism community, and the rest is history.

WOW. Thank-you Paulette for an amazing experience. The DVD you created in honour of my brother’s 50^th Birthday turned out to be outstanding.  My background includes heavy marketing and community outreach including television and documentary production. My normal media contact decided to retire his DVD production services and it was sheer panic for me as to who could take his place. Not only did you match the quality of his production and creativity but you surpassed it!

From the start of our association, you were very warm and welcoming on the phone, you gave me a non-evasive general idea of how much it would cost and you were willing to take on a project with very little time.  Even with some major “hiccups” in accessing some vital elements to the project, you were very gracious, understanding and kept your sense of humor throughout the duration. Most of all, you did not give up on the project and you were tenacious in your efforts to make everything work!

In this field of work it is hard for any “lay person” to understand just how time consuming, detailed, stressful and exhausting this work this can be. To take sensitive family memories from strangers and turn them into a magical, heart tugging pieces is truly a gift. You have that gift.
